What is Love?

What is a soul mate? What is true love? You watch these shows and movies that give you a totally unreal concept of what those two questions mean. Has there ever been a time where you've been so upset with your significant other, and hope they will just come running back to you, and pick you up and kiss you and tell you they love you? All of us women want that, yet it's a false interpretation of love and what women expect from men. Movies make love look easy, when in reality, they are really hard. You have to work at it every day.
"Soul mate [and True Love]. Two little words, one big concept. The belief that someone, somewhere is holding the key to your heart and your dream house. All you have to do is find them."
To define love is hard, because no love is ever the same. I can't put into perfect words about what love is to me. All I can say is it's the most amazing feeling to love someone, but also have someone love you back. But if you love someone and you break up, where does the love go? Eventually the love dissipates and dissolves when breaking up. You will always care about someone you have loved but you aren't IN LOVE anymore. There's a big difference between loving someone and being IN love with someone.
When you are in love with someone, your love for them grows every day. It's hard to imagine loving someone more tomorrow then you did today, but it constantly happens. You think of them constantly and they become as much a part of you as you are yourself. Being in love is a strong, passionate emotion, that is powerful enough to prompt changes in your life.
So what exactly is true love? Can you have more than one? What if you loved someone and it didn't work out, does that mean they weren't your soul mate or your true love?
I think true love is a lot of things... Sex is not true love, you don't have to be in love to do that. True love is more than falling in love; it's trust, it's friendship, it's shared, it's help, it's caring, it's support, it's being able to talk to someone and ask for advice without being judged. It's all those things wrapped into one. Every problem is a test for those feelings you both share and the strength to overcome those obstacles together. It's being able to share your hopes and dreams with one another, loving all their faults and beauty, it's comfortable, it's accepting, it's not what you assume it is. It's being able to not have to ask if it's love. Love shouldn't be jealous or selfish, it shouldn't be controlling and you shouldn't have to change who you are. I don't think you can have more than one true love. You may think you had found your true love and the next moment, they are gone out of your life. Some people may never find their true love, or their true love has passed away. You may never know until the day you die whether you have found your true love or not, but sometimes people just know.
I think Leonardi DiCaprio hit the nail on the head with his quote today; "I suppose if I'd found my true love, I would be married right now, wouldn't I?" He's the primal example of someone that although they have been in multiple long term relationships, hasn't found that one someone he wants to spend the rest of his life with. He hasn't rushed into marriage like some many other celebrities who feel the pressure of falling in love. I think when you find that someone you don't care what obstacles you have to take to be with them, to marry them, you just want to do whatever it takes. I've had my fair share of mistakes. I was called fat, and selfish, ugly, stupid, and everything under the book by someone I thought I loved. But what kind of love is that to degrade and make someone feel lower than dirt? That's not the kind of love you should want and most certainly not what you deserve.
It's the person you think about when you wake up every morning, the person who is always on your mind, day after day, night after night. The same person who calls you beautiful even when you look your worst, and the same person who makes you feel like a better person each and every day. The same person that even though you fight, still holds you and tells you he loves you; who laughs at all your stupid jokes, and watches all your girly shows, just so he can spend more time with you. He's the same person you wonder why he's with you in the first place, because you can't see just how beautiful you really are. The one who holds you when you're upset and the one who makes you laugh so hard you cry.
I have had my fair share of broken hearts, but I know that those were just tests and experiences I would go through so I could meet the person I was supposed to be with. You learn from your mistakes and past relationships. That's why an ex is called an ex, it's an EXample of what you shouldn't be looking for in the future. Relationships aren't easy, they're meant to be fought for. Have I found my soul mate? I'd like to think so.
Love is love. It's the feeling between two people get when they care more for the other person than for themselves. How would you define it?
